HypnoBirthing® – The Mongan Method
Relaxed, natural childbirth education enhanced by self-hypnosis, taught by a HypnoBirthing Institute certified practitioner.
HypnoBirthing® is a unique method of relaxed, natural childbirth that lets you use your natural instincts for a safer, easier and more comfortable birth. It is as much a philosophy as a technique, building on the work of Dr Grantly Dick-Read, who first put forward the idea of natural birthing in the 1920s.
You'll learn how your birthing muscles work in harmony when your body is fully relaxed, how to reach that relaxation without the resistance fear creates, and how to trust your instincts for a calm, comfortable birth.
Why five sessions?
Self-hypnosis and deep relaxation are skills that need to be learned gradually and practised between classes. A weekend crash course doesn't give your brain and body time to absorb them, especially in pregnancy.
Spacing the classes out lets you practise together during the week, then come back to discuss and improve. It also gives you time to explore your feelings, release any anxieties and get to know your baby. Our classes are kept small so you get personal attention.
Frequently asked questions
What is hypnosis?
No, you won't bark like a puppy! Hypnosis is simply a deep state of relaxation, like the daydreams we drift into every day. It lets you relax deeply while staying aware of everything around you and in control.
Will I be asleep? Is it safe?
You'll be fully awake and able to talk with others. Hypnosis is completely safe and you can come out of self-hypnosis at any time.
Will I remember everything?
Yes. Self-hypnosis doesn't remove or alter memories. It helps you stay relaxed and in control.
Will my labour be pain free?
HypnoBirthing® doesn't guarantee a pain-free labour, but its philosophy is that extreme pain doesn't need to be a normal part of a healthy labour. It helps you feel relaxed and in control.
Is my partner involved?
Yes. Partners join all the activities and learn the most effective ways to support you, and how to relax and enjoy the experience themselves.
Can it help if I'm planning an epidural?
Yes. Self-hypnosis helps with every kind of birth, with or without pain relief, vaginal or caesarean.
